KATHMANDU, May 7: Nepal´s star striker Anil Gurung has signed a deal with Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) soon after his arrival from India.
Gurung, who has terminated his Rs 6.3 million contract for three years with India´s second-tier club Shillong Lajong recently, signed 3-month contract with MMC.
“My aim is to play in I-League and I´m in touch with the two Indian clubs. So, MMC and I reached the understanding,” said Gurung.
According to Gurung, MMC will release him if he gets any offer from Indian team and strike a final deal later.
“I thought about my fitness and decided to join the club,” said Gurung.
MMC has forwarded all the necessary documents to All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) to register Gurung. “We are yet to receive his International Transfer Certificate (ITC), but we´ll get it by Saturday or Sunday,” said Kumar Bhattarai, legal-advisor of MMC.
Gurung and Bhattarai both refused to disclose the contract amount. “He is interested in playing I-league and he may leave us any time. Thus, we have not disclosed the amount. However, club will respect the players of Gurung´s stature and we´ll help him in the right way,” said Bhattarai.
Gurung had terminated his contract with Shillong Lajong earlier this month after the club looked for Gurung´s replacement when Gurung reached there after a month break to play AFC Challenge Cup for the Nepali national team.
