  SPORTS BRIEFS: Nat'l Badminton from next week

KATHMANDU, Sept 23: Nepal Police Second National Badminton Tournament will kick off from next week marking 55th Police Day.

The tournament carrying an attractive cash prize will be held from coming Tuesday to Saturday. Of the total estimated budget of Rs 205,5125 the organizers have set aside Rs 472,000 for prizes, said AIG Kalyan Kumar Timsina during a press meet at the Nepal Police Club (NPC) on Thursday.

The tournament includes seven categories, including singles and doubles in both men´s and women´s category, U17 singles in boys´ and girls´ category and veterans doubles. Altogether 314 players, including 37 females, will compete in the tournament to be held at the NPC and Police Training Academy, Maharajgunj.

Valley Public, Ullens in final

Valley Public School set a final clash against Ullens in the Pathshala Cup First National Mini Basketball Tournament. Valley Public thrashed New Summit 42-14 in the first semifinal played on Thursday at the court of the hosts Pathshala Nepal, Baneshwar. Sanjib Khadka and Yoban Karki scored 11 points each for the winners. Likewise, Ullens beat Rato Bangala 22-12. Ramesh Bhushal scored eight points for the Ullens.

NRN Marathon in Pokhara

The ninth edition of the NRN Pokhara Marathon is set to kick off in the scenic city of Pokhara on October 11. The marathon is also being organized to showcase Pokhara as a tourist destination. The marathon is being organized by the Ex-players´ Forum on the occasion of the Non Resident Nepalis´ Day. The marathon will help in the promotion of internal and external tourism, Non-Resident Nepali Association Secretary Tenzi Sherpa said during a press conference on Thursday. One athlete from each district and five each from the departmental teams will participate in the marathon, according to Sherpa.
