  Statute possible in 7 months: Nembang

CHARIKOT, June 11: Chairman of the Constituent Assembly (CA) Subas Nembang on Friday said the new constitution can be promulgated within the next seven months if all the parties worked honestly for it.

Stating that promulgation of new constitution had not been possible within the stipulated time in the past due to the delay in the formation of State Restructuring Commission and settling the issue of governance system, Nembang said they have developed a CA calendar of operation of seven to nine months to complete the tak of constitution writing.

Addressing the 34th Executive Council meeting of Nepal Bar Association in Dolakha, Nembang said the delay in implementation of the three-point deal has created suspicions and confusion among the people.

Nembang said he is constantly holding talks with the top leaders of the parties to end the current political deadlock.

Inaugurating the function, Chief Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha said democratic system cannot be strengthened in the absence of independent judiciary. He asked the lawyers to think seriously whether the provisions that CA Committee on Judicial System has proposed will ensure independent judiciary in the country.

Minister for Law Prem Bahadur Singh said he is always in favor of independent judiciary as democratic values cannot sustain in its absence.

Over 500 lawyers from various parts of the country are participating in the meeting. Journalists Bibekananda Mishra of Gorkhapatra daily and Dilli Acharya of Rajdhani daily were felicitated for excellent reporting on law beat.
