KATHMANDU, May 17: Unified CPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Monday told the ambassadors, diplomats and chiefs of the United Nations agencies in Kathmandu that the management of former Maoist combatants would be completed within the recently renewed UNMIN mandate. The mandate to be effective from May 16 expires on September 15.
"The combatants will be brought under the Special Committee for Supervision, Management and Integration of Maoist Combatants within a month," Maoist´s Krishna Bahadur Mahara quoted Dahal as saying in a meeting with Kathmandu-based diplomatic community at Hotel Annapurna Monday afternoon.
The diplomats asked for Dahal´s view on management of combatants, extension of the term of the Constituent Assembly beyond May 28.
According to Mahara, Dahal said that the Maoist would only agree for the term extension of CA if a national unity government is not formed and the provision of majority system is replaced by the consensus for power-sharing in the Interim Constitution.
