Settle labor attache row at bureaucratic level: PM
REPUBLICA
KATHMANDU, MAY 10: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has directed senior officials from his office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Labor and Transport Management to settle the labor attachés appointment row at bureaucratic level.
For this he directed Chief Secretary Madhav Ghimire to coordinate a team comprising Foreign Secretary Madan Kumar Bhattarai, Law Secretary Madhav Poudel, General Administration Secretary Balananda Poudel and Labor Secretary Dinesh Hari Adhikari to prepare a study on appointment of labor attachés.
The issue of labor attaché landed before the prime minister after officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) objected to the May-1 decision appointing six labor attachés and Labor Minister Mohammad Aftab Alam misbehaved with senior MoFA officials.
Though the labor attachés work in different missions abroad and are overseen by MoFA, the Labor Ministry did not consult MoFA while appointing the labor attachés, prompting officials from the diplomatic service to express concern.
The prime minister called the meeting of concerned ministers and officials from Labor Ministry and MoFA a day after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority took control of flies related to labor attaché appointment.
