  Govt To Bust Brokers At Kalimati Veg Market

    KATHMANDU, Feb 17: A meeting of top bureaucrats held at the prime minister´s office (PMO) and chaired by Chief Secretary Madhav Prasad Ghimire has decided to crack down on "middlemen" at Kalimati Fruits and Vegitable Market to curtail artificial price hikes in fruits and vegetables.

The meeting attended by various government secretaries directed Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS) officials to immediately crack down on unscrupulous middlemen at Kalimati vegetable market who are allegedly charging exorbitant prices for vegetables and profiteering.

 
  MoIC Pushes For UTL's Royalty Waiver

    KATHMANDU, Feb 16: The Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) has written a request letter to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) for waiver of United Telecom Limited´s (UTL) outstanding royalty that stands at around Rs 1 billion.

A finance ministry official told Republica that the ministry received the letter last week.

 
  Insurance Board Tightens Balance Sheet Approval Process

    KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Insurance companies from now on will have to submit squeaky-clean balance sheets for approval at the Insurance Board, as the insurance sector regulator tightens its grip on financial report endorsement process after tracing loopholes that were being used for personal gains.

The move comes close on the heels of incident surrounding Asian Life Insurance, in which the company “misinterpreted” the regulator´s instruction and distributed dividend among promoters and public shareholders, breaching the conditions set by the Board.

 
  MoCS Clueless About Crucial Meeting

    KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Though Nepal and Bangladesh finalized a draft last year, aiming to bring into operation a transit route between the two countries, the final pact is still eluding. A commerce secretary level meeting held last year in Dhaka had finalized the draft of the proposed agreement.

The agreement envisions to boost exports from Nepal through improved connectivity with Bangladesh. Lentils constitute about 75 percent of Nepal´s exports to Bangladesh.

 
  MoCS Seeks Viable Biz Plans From Ailing PEs

    KATHMANDU, Feb 15: The Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS) has directed all its public enterprises (PEs) and development committees to furnish detailed business plans and ways to improve their financial health.

The ministry is looking to beef up these PEs and enhance their competitive strength in the market where dominance of private companies is increasingly high.
