Govt, Maoists to be blamed if country blacklisted: UML

REPUBLICA

REPUBLICA, Feb 16:  The central committee (CC) meeting of CPN-UML said on Thursday that the government and the prime minister´s party UCPN (Maoist) would be held responsible if Nepal is blacklisted for failing to endorse three separate bills related to money laundering.

The opposition party has said that it is well aware of the possible implications that the country and Nepali citizens may face if the government fails to endorse the bills.
It said it wants the bills to get endorsed without delay by making some amendments to flaws in the proposed laws.

“The UCPN (Maoist) and the government led by the same party will be held squarely responsible if the country is blacklisted,” said a statement issued by the party.

The meeting also endorsed party chairman Jhalanath Khanal´s paper tabled for deliberations in the committee. “We endorsed the report after the party chairman said he would make some amendments to accommodate feedbacks from central committee members,” UML CC member Bhanubhakta Dhakal told Republica.

The report was earlier discussed separately at the party´s standing committee and politburo meetings and Khanal made some changes in the report as per the suggestions offered by the party leaders.

Among other issues, the ongoing meeting is scheduled to discuss the models of state restructuring proposed by the party´s central department of federal affairs.
