  ANFA sends host crashing out

UPENDRA LAMICHHANE

SIMARA, Feb 14: ANFA Academy´s U-17 team sent the host Nawa Jana Jagriti Club crashing out with a convincing 3-1 during the curtain raiser of Magic Moments Simara Gold Cup Football Tournament that kicked off in Simara, Bara on Tuesday.

Skipper Heman Gurung netted twice for the young ANFA colts while Suraj Gurung got another. Asim Jung Karki hit back the consolation goal for home team.

Gurung opened the scoring in the 18th minute and Hamal doubled the tally first minute into the second half. Gurung scored his second individual goal in an hour mark through a spot-kick to make the score 3-0. Karki pulled one back for home team during the fading moments of match.

Academy U-17 coach Mrigendra Mishra expressed satisfaction at his sides´ performance. He lauded his defenders´ performance for foiling beautiful chances of opponents.

Nawa Jagriti´s coach Ram Krishna Khadka said that his team was defeated as they failed to play team game. "Though the players were skillful, they failed to play a team game," Khadka pointed reason for his side´s defeat. "It was unfortunate to hit woodwork in the 25th minute, had the goal been scored it could have been a turning point of the match."

Earlier, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai inaugurated the match giving away ball to the referee.

Samsung Jawalakhel Youth Club will take on Sahara Club of Pokhara on Wednesday.
