BANEPA, May 24: The newly formed Madhesi People´s Right Forum-Republican (MPRF-R) Chairman Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta has demanded resignation of Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal to safeguard the Constituent Assembly.
“Khanal failed to win the trust of colleagues from his own party. So, there is no alternative for him other than to resign,” Gupta told media persons after the first meeting of his party at Dhulikhal on Tuesday.
Stating that his party is in favor of extending the CA term, Gupta said that his party first wants to ensure a credible basis for the completion of peace process and constitution writing. He said the CA term should be extended through consensus among the parties.
Claming that the split in MPRF would bring a positive change in national politics, Gupta said, “The split has prevented the CPN-UML and the Maoists from taking unilateral decisions. They must now take decisions on the basis of consensus.”
The MFRF-R has also taken a strong exception to the recent statement of Madhesi People´s Right Forum Chairman Upendra Yadav. Yadav had claimed that millions of rupees had been spent to split the party.
The MPRF-R meeting also decided to take initiatives for the implementation of a deal reached between United Democratic Madhesi Front and government in 2008, said MPRF-R Secretary Rajlal Yadav.
The party has demanded compensation for the victims of the Madhes Movement and an arrangement for the study of their children.
The MPRF-R lawmakers had arrived in Dhulikhel Monday night for the meeting.
MPRF-R is likely to be registered at the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday. A three-member panel is about to draft the party´s statute by Tuesday night, according to a member of the panel Nandan Kumar Dutta.
